They call our work civil drafting. As near as I can tell, my part is taking maps others have made or tracing pictures of maps into AutoCAD, taking legal descriptions of the properties and boundaries thereof, and making sure they match up. If they don't, and the error was mine, I can correct it.
If it wasn't my fault, I let someone know about it (with any suggestions I might have), they get to it, decide what to do about it, and let me know. (This part can take a day or three.)
Once everything is all nice and legally proper (which can take quite some time, in some cases) then I make the map look all pretty for the peoples by making sure each dimension (length, direction, etc. (such as -Length 84.7', N27ยบ45'30"E-)) is aligned with its respective line, each lot is marked, and no line interferes with any text. It's not bad work, it's just that the company is so small, we have to be fast and good and experienced if the company is going to make it.
Ever seen someone running who was leaned over so far that the only reason they didn't fall over was that they somehow kept their legs under them? It's a very fast but inefficient way to run. After a while, they must either fall over or slow down and run at a steady pace...and in slowing down, they might lose their balance and fall over anyway.
This represents me, and also the company. The boss-guy keeps taking on a huge amount of work because he's so sure we can do it.
I'm going to burn out if I can't slow my personal pace a bit. And I hate feeling lazy for actually taking a lunch. (The other two in the office tend to eat as they work, and the manager-person not only stays at least three hours after, he often takes work home on weekends (without pay, I might add.)
Shall I add that boss-guy's wife is manager-person's sister? That they started the company together? That while I can't find anything wrong with either of them as a person (beyond the usual problems I have with humanity), I can't stand either of them?
No, it's not much of a company, but they only incorporated a year or so ago.
I have to find more ways to de-stress...I already spend any non-work time I can doing things to avoid dreaming about work, and it's just not enough.
Most disturbing.
